Eighteen annual scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 to Virginia high-school juniors or seniors and homeschooled students able to write outstanding analytical essays about positive or negative aspects of the character, career and legacy of General Robert E. Lee and/ General Thomas J. ‘Stonewall’ Jackson.
The Lee-Jackson Foundation of Charlottesville was established in 1953 by Jay W. Johns, a successful industrialist and great admirer of Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson, who were both involved in educational initiatives.
They offer yearly 18 scholarships to talented high-school or homeschooled students from Virginia planning to enroll in a college or university. The applicants should write an essay describing various aspects from General Lee’s and/or General Jackson’s lives, careers or legacy. The essay will be judged according to their historical accuracy, quality of research and clarity of expression.
The deadline for the applications is February 5, 2023 and the winners will be notified by May 16, 2023.
Candidates should submit no later than February 5, 2023 a completed application form, including an essay about General Robert E. Lee or General Thomas J. ‘Stonewall’ Jackson. The essays should be clear, well-addressed, historically accurate, thoroughly researched and original and may discuss topics such as:
