The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) Foundation seeks to support the growth of Amateur Radio through its numerous scholarship programs. The foundation established this scholarship in honor of Tom and Judith Comstock, two radio pioneers.
The $2,000- scholarship is awarded to one recipient a year. To be eligible to apply, interested individuals should have an active Amateur Radio License Class, and be pursuing or about to be pursuing a college degree. The scholarship is open to high school seniors and undergraduates.
Applicants should be residents of Texas or Oklahoma pursuing a four-year college or two-year college program. They must provide their grade transcripts, recommendation letters, and résumés.
1. Start early
Make sure you start the application process early. Don’t push anything till the last minute. Reach out to your reference, and gather all your necessary details on time to avoid any last-minute complications.
2. Reach out to past winners
Previous recipients of the scholarship are listed on the website. Try contacting them to gain better insight into the application process, and what the selection committee is looking out for.
3. Choose your reference wisely
You only have one shot at a letter of recommendation, so choose the most qualified person for the job. Your reference should be someone who you actually have a relationship with, so they can sufficiently speak to most - if not all - your qualifications.
4. Review your application
Cross your t’s and dot your i’s. Patiently go through your application to get rid of mistakes or grammatical errors. It definitely helps to have another pair of eyes look at it, so they can catch what you may have missed. Get a second or third eye review to avoid any unforeseen errors.
