That date is the trap. BU's regular first-year application deadline for Fall 2027 entry is 5 January 2027, and most applicants plan their autumn around it. The merit date is 1 December 2026, more than a month earlier, and it applies to your supporting credentials too, not just the Common Application. A transcript, School Report, counselor recommendation or teacher evaluation that arrives in mid December still counts for admission and no longer counts for the scholarship. If you want the Presidential in play, treat 1 December as your real deadline and ask your school for documents in October.

BU also flags that the half-tuition value applies to students entering from Fall 2026 onward, so older write-ups describing a different Presidential award value are describing a cycle that has passed.
Who this award is really for becomes clear once you look at how BU funds everyone else. Need-based aid at BU is generous and completely closed to one group. The BU Promise meets 100 per cent of demonstrated need without loans for first-year students, and households under $200,000 are told to expect at least full tuition plus part of the standard housing and dining cost, but every line of it applies only to US citizens and permanent residents who file the CSS Profile and the FAFSA.
