Penn State DUS Scholarship 2026
The Penn State DUS Scholarship 2026 is for students who used the Division of Undergraduate Studies to figure out a major, not for students who already arrived with a locked plan. Penn State opened the 2026 round on 5 October. You email three short statements to Emily Herr at [email protected] by Sunday 1 November 2026, from your Penn State address, with your name left off the pages. Each award is at least $1,000. The DUS page says you will hear by 21 December 2026. Any campus counts, and the written rules do not require U.S. citizenship.
What is the Penn State DUS Scholarship?
The Penn State DUS Scholarship 2026 pays students who treated an undecided year as work, not as a pause. The Division of Undergraduate Studies is the academic home for people who are still testing majors. Penn State Undergraduate Education funds a minimum $1,000 award for students who can explain that testing in writing. Penn State News published the opening on 5 October 2026. The instructions you follow live at dus.psu.edu/dus-scholarships, under a heading that says the 2026 application is open.
You do not use a portal and you do not attach a transcript. You write three statements, each capped at 500 words, and you email them to Emily Herr at [email protected] from your Penn State address by Sunday 1 November 2026. Strip your name off the pages. The committee reads them anonymously, then matches the file to the sender. One prompt asks how you explored, what worked, what you would change, and what you would tell a first-year student. The second asks for co-curricular life, including jobs and caregiving, and the impact of one experience. The third asks you to connect a general education class to a major or to something you did outside class.
Last year's named winners show the geography. Shanin Drucquer at University Park received the Joyce Buck Award. Ali-Abbas Bhimji was at Lehigh Valley, Jesse Johnson at Behrend, and Victoria Davi and Molly Keegan at University Park. Any campus can compete. The DUS page says decisions come by 21 December 2026. The news story said 20 December. Use the application page if you have to pick one.
Citizenship is not on the checklist, so an international student already inside DUS is eligible on the same terms as a Pennsylvania resident. A student at another school is not. If you want a Pennsylvania award that is not locked to Penn State enrollment, compare the Horatio Alger Pennsylvania scholarships and apply there only if those rules fit you. DUS questions go to [email protected] or [email protected], or to the office at 101 Grange Building, University Park.
Eligibility
-
✓Current Penn State undergraduateYou must be enrolled as an undergraduate at Penn State right now. The Penn State DUS Scholarship 2026 is a campus award, so a student at another Pennsylvania college cannot apply. The DUS page does not add a citizenship rule. An international student who is enrolled and meets the DUS and credit tests can apply.
-
✓At least two semesters in DUSPrevious enrollment in the Division of Undergraduate Studies has to cover at least two semesters. DUS is the academic home for students who are still exploring a program of study. One semester in DUS is not enough.
-
✓Second year or higher, 28 creditsYou need second-year or higher standing and at least 28 credits completed at Penn State. Credits from another college do not fill that 28 unless Penn State has already counted them, and the page says the credits must be completed at Penn State.
-
✓A transcript-level academic recordThe committee wants commendable academic achievement as shown by your transcript. You do not upload a transcript. Reviewers can see your record. A weak record is a real barrier even though no numeric GPA is printed on the page.
-
✓Proof you actually exploredSelection rests on meaningful academic exploration. The three prompts ask for your process, a co-curricular summary, and a link between a general education class and a major or an experience outside class. A student who never used DUS to test interests will have little to write.

-
