University of Florida Scholarship 2027 - Up to $80,000
The University of Florida Scholarship 2027 is not something you apply for. UF's Office of Admissions awards a limited number of merit scholarships to admitted freshmen using the same holistic read it uses for admission itself, so your grades, test scores, activities, leadership, service and personal essay do double duty and nothing extra can be submitted afterwards. The money splits into two families. Presidential awards pay $5,000, $8,000 or $10,000 a year across four years, and they stack with Florida Bright Futures and the state Benacquisto Scholarship. Out-of-state tuition waivers go further, running up to $8,000 a year for the Alumni Scholarship, up to $16,000 for the Sunshine Scholarship, and a flat $20,000 a year for the Gator Nation Scholarship, which comes to $80,000 over a degree. Around one in ten admitted freshmen receives a merit award, there are no minimum cutoffs, and UF neither matches other offers nor runs an appeal. For Fall 2027 entry, Early Decision closes 15 October 2026, Early Action on 1 November, and Regular Decision on 15 January 2027, with scholarship offers emailed by mid-March.
What is the University of Florida Scholarship 2027?
The University of Florida Scholarship 2027 is really a bundle, and the most useful thing to understand about it is that you cannot apply for most of it. UF's Office of Admissions picks merit scholarship recipients out of the admitted freshman pool using exactly the same holistic read it used to admit them, weighing grades and test scores alongside extracurricular involvement, leadership, community service and the personal essay. No separate form exists. Nothing can be added afterwards. About one in ten admitted freshmen ends up with a merit award, there are no published cutoffs, and UF says plainly that two students with near-identical numbers can get different answers because the pool changes every year.
The money comes in two shapes. Presidential scholarships pay $5,000, $8,000 or $10,000 a year depending on tier, across fall and spring for four years, and they layer on top of Florida Bright Futures and the state's Benacquisto Scholarship. The out-of-state tuition waivers are the larger prize and work differently: the Alumni Scholarship knocks up to $8,000 a year off non-resident tuition, the Sunshine Scholarship up to $16,000, and the Gator Nation Scholarship a flat $20,000, which adds up to $80,000 across a degree. Because they are waivers rather than cash, they vanish if your residency is reclassified as in-state, and they cannot be doubled up with another tuition-waiver award from a college like the School of Music. Admitted international freshmen are considered for the same waivers.
Then there is the tier you have to be invited into. Students admitted to the UF Honors Program through Early Decision or Early Action get invitations to apply for the John V. Lombardi Scholarship, which pairs a four-year award with four fully funded summer enrichment experiences including study abroad and a domestic leadership retreat, and for the Stamps Scholarship, which UF Honors runs in partnership with the national Stamps Scholars programme. Neither has a public application route. Separately, the Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars programme gives first-generation, low-income students a full grant and scholarship package plus wraparound support, and it opens only after you file the FAFSA and meet its threshold of family income under $55,000 with assets under $35,000. National Merit Finalists who name UF first choice with the National Merit Corporation by 31 May get $500 a year, which also unlocks Benacquisto eligibility for Florida residents.
Practically, the calendar is what decides most of this. For Fall 2027 entry, Early Decision closes 15 October 2026 and binds you, Early Action closes 1 November 2026 and does not, and Regular Decision closes 15 January 2027. The two early tracks are where merit consideration and Honors invitations live, which makes the choice of timeline a bigger financial decision than most applicants realise. Materials deadlines land a week after each application deadline and your STARS record locks for editing at that point. Offers reach selected students by email and status page by mid-March 2027, and UF sends nothing at all to students who were not chosen, so no news genuinely is the news. There is no appeal and UF will not match another university's offer. Confirm enrolment and pay the $200 non-refundable deposit by 1 May 2027, official test scores by the same date, and final transcripts by 1 July. Can international students get a University of Florida scholarship?
Yes. The Office of Admissions considers admitted international freshmen for the same out-of-state tuition waivers offered to domestic non-residents, so the Alumni, Sunshine and Gator Nation awards are in play. Federal need-based aid and the Florida state programmes such as Bright Futures and Benacquisto are not. The UF International Center has further resources for admitted international students.
Do UF scholarships stack with Bright Futures?
Yes for the Presidential awards, which UF says can be combined with both Bright Futures and the Benacquisto Scholarship. The order of operations matters if you hold a Florida Prepaid plan: Prepaid applies to tuition first, then other awards including your Presidential scholarship, grants and loans apply to the balance, then the final qualifying Bright Futures amount. The $2,000 Admissions Honors Scholarship also combines with the merit awards but reduces what gets billed to a Prepaid account.
