It is the most prestigious award Eastern Michigan University offers an incoming first-year student, covering full tuition plus room and board for four years at a value EMU puts at approximately $100,000. Recipients become active members of The Honors College at EMU. Unlike the Emerald Scholarship, which is automatic for admitted students who meet the GPA bands, the Presidential Scholarship has its own application, its own December deadline and an interview round.

Eastern Michigan does not publish a fixed annual dollar figure for the award, because the value tracks its own tuition and housing rates rather than a set amount.
