Purdue University Scholarship 2027 - Up to $16,000/yr
The Purdue University Scholarship route is unusual in how little paperwork it asks for. There is no separate scholarship application at all. You complete your Purdue admission application through the Common App by the firm Early Action deadline of 1 November 2026, and that single submission puts you in front of every university-wide merit award for Fall 2027 entry. The Trustees Scholarship sits at the top at $16,000 a year for nonresidents and $10,000 a year for Indiana residents. The Presidential Scholarship pays $10,000 and $4,000 on the same split. The Lilly Scholars at Purdue Program goes further again, covering full tuition for up to eight semesters alongside a guaranteed paid internship or co-op at Eli Lilly, and Indy Scholars pays a minimum of $10,000 a year to students enrolling at the Indianapolis campus. All of them renew for up to four years provided you hold a Purdue GPA of 3.00 or higher. Purdue says about 15% of applicants receive a merit award, and notification arrives with your admission decision rather than in a separate letter. One hard limit is worth knowing before you start: these are domestic awards, and Purdue states that international students holding F, J and some other visa types are not eligible. Against 2026-27 tuition and fees of $28,794 for nonresidents and $9,992 for Indiana residents, held flat for a 14th straight year, a Trustees award covers a serious slice of the bill.
What is the Purdue University Scholarship 2027?
The Purdue University Scholarship is best understood as a set rather than a single award, and the thing that makes it worth your attention is how little extra work it asks for. Purdue does not run a separate scholarship competition. You apply for admission through the Common App, and if everything lands by the firm Early Action deadline of 1 November 2026, you are automatically considered for the whole university-wide range. The Trustees Scholarship leads at $16,000 a year for nonresidents and $10,000 for Indiana residents. Behind it sits the Presidential Scholarship at $10,000 and $4,000 on the same residency split. The Lilly Scholars at Purdue Program is the outlier in scale, covering full tuition for up to eight semesters and attaching a guaranteed paid internship or co-op at Eli Lilly, with priority going to first-generation students and those from under-resourced urban and rural backgrounds studying majors tied to pharmaceutical manufacturing. Students heading to the Indianapolis campus have Indy Scholars, worth a minimum of $10,000 a year.
Those numbers mean more once you put them next to what Purdue actually charges. Tuition and fees for 2026-27 are $9,992 for Indiana residents and $28,794 for nonresidents, and the trustees held both flat in June 2026 for a 14th consecutive year, which is why Purdue keeps turning up on best-value lists. An Indiana resident with a Trustees award has tuition and fees paid outright with money to spare. A nonresident with the same award knocks more than half off the tuition line. Housing and food sit outside all of it, billed at roughly $16,734 for the academic year, and a handful of programmes including computer science, nursing and the Daniels School of Business add differential tuition on top of the base rate. Check your intended major against that list before you build a budget around the headline figures.
The part that catches people out is the word Purdue attaches to 1 November: firm. Not priority, not recommended. Every required item has to be received by 11:59 p.m. Eastern that night, and a transcript your school posts late makes the application incomplete no matter how early you clicked submit. Miss it and you can still apply for Fall 2027 admission right up to 15 January 2027, but the merit scholarships and the John Martinson Honors College are both off the table. That same 1 November date doubles as the priority deadline for competitive majors including engineering, computer science, professional flight technology, nursing and veterinary nursing, where later applications are only taken if space allows. Decisions for Early Action applicants arrive on or before 15 January 2027, and your scholarship news comes attached to the admission letter rather than in a separate envelope weeks later.
One restriction deserves stating flatly, because aggregator posts about Purdue funding routinely get it wrong. These awards are for domestic students. Purdue's own wording is that international students holding F, J and some other visa types are not eligible, and domestic means US citizens, US nationals, permanent resident aliens and others lawfully present and able to establish US domicile. If you will study on an F-1 visa, Purdue directs you towards private and external scholarships, with loans available only where you have a US citizen co-signer, against international tuition and fees of $32,104 a year. For domestic applicants the odds are worth knowing too: roughly 15% of applicants receive a merit award, drawn from a pool that ran to 86,953 applications for the Fall 2025 class. If you are weighing several campuses, the ICASE Presidential Scholarship guide covers another Indiana route, the Northwestern University Scholarship guide sets out a need-met private alternative, and the University of Florida Scholarship guide shows how a comparable public flagship handles merit money. Current terms are published on the Purdue first-year scholarships page.
Eligibility
-
✓Applying to Purdue as a first-year studentYou need to be a current high school student, or someone who has earned 11 or fewer college credit hours since finishing high school. Transfer applicants are handled under a separate process with its own deadlines and are not considered for these first-year awards.
-
✓Domestic student statusPurdue restricts its merit scholarships to domestic students, meaning US citizens, US nationals, permanent resident aliens and others lawfully present and able to establish domicile in the US. Purdue states plainly that international students holding F, J and some other visa types are not eligible. The National Recognition Programs award carries the same domestic-only rule.
-
✓A complete application by 1 November 2026The word Purdue uses is firm, not priority. Every required item has to be received by 11:59 p.m. Eastern on 1 November 2026 for Fall 2027 entry. An application that lands on 2 November still gets read for admission, but the university-wide scholarships are gone for that cycle.
-
✓The expected high school courseworkFour years of maths, four of English, three of lab science, three of social studies and two of a world language. Engineering applicants need chemistry, and nursing, pharmacy and veterinary nursing applicants need both chemistry and biology.
-
✓An academic record that holds up in the Purdue poolSelection runs on a holistic review of what you submit with the admission application. For scale, the Fall 2025 entering class had a middle 50% high school GPA of 3.70 to 4.00, SAT scores of 1220 to 1480 and ACT scores of 28 to 34, drawn from 86,953 applications at a 43.4% admit rate.
-
✓A Purdue GPA of 3.00 to keep the moneyThe Trustees, Presidential, Indy Scholars and Lilly awards all renew for up to four years, and each one is conditional on maintaining a Purdue GPA of 3.00 or higher. The National Recognition Programs Scholarship renews on good academic standing instead.
-
✓A FAFSA if you want need-based help on topMerit awards do not require the FAFSA, but need-based aid does. Purdue asks for it by the university priority filing date of 15 April. Filing costs you nothing and merit and need-based aid stack, so there is no reason to skip it.

Document checklist
-
✓Common App application to PurduePurdue takes the Common App for first-year applicants to both West Lafayette and Indianapolis. The Fall term window runs 1 August to 15 January, but the scholarship cutoff is the earlier 1 November Early Action date.
-
✓Official high school transcriptYour full secondary record, sent by your school. Get the request in early, because a transcript that arrives after 1 November makes the application incomplete and costs you the scholarship consideration.
-
✓Purdue essay and supplemental questionsThe Purdue questions inside the Common App are read as part of the holistic review that decides merit awards, so they carry real weight rather than being a formality.
-
✓Your intended major, chosen with carePurdue offers more than 150 majors, and 1 November is also the priority deadline for the competitive ones including engineering, computer science, professional flight technology, nursing and veterinary nursing. Applications to those majors after 1 November are only accepted if space allows.
-
✓SAT, ACT or CLT scores, optionalTesting is not strictly required, though Purdue encourages it and accepts all three with no stated preference. Scores must be from the past five years. If you want them considered, sit the test by spring of junior year so results land before 1 November.
-
✓FAFSARequired for need-based aid rather than for the merit awards. Purdue lists 15 April as its priority filing date.
-
✓John Martinson Honors College supplement, optionalThe 1 November deadline is also what gets you read for the honours college. Its extra questions sit inside the same Common App submission, so there is no second portal to track.

FAQ
What is the Purdue University Scholarship?
It is not one award but a set of university-wide merit scholarships Purdue gives to incoming first-year students, decided from the admission application itself. The main ones are the Trustees Scholarship, the Presidential Scholarship, the Lilly Scholars at Purdue Program, Indy Scholars for the Indianapolis campus, and the National Recognition Programs Scholarship. All share one deadline of 1 November and all are awarded without a separate scholarship form.
How much is the Purdue Trustees Scholarship?
$16,000 a year for nonresidents and $10,000 a year for Indiana residents, renewable for up to four years on a Purdue GPA of 3.00 or higher. That is roughly $64,000 across four years at the nonresident rate. The Presidential Scholarship is the next tier down at $10,000 for nonresidents and $4,000 for Indiana residents on the same renewal terms.
What is the Purdue scholarship deadline for 2027 entry?
1 November 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern, and Purdue labels it firm rather than priority. Every required item has to be received by then, not merely submitted. The National Recognition Programs Scholarship treats 1 November as a priority date instead. Admission alone stays open until 15 January 2027 for Fall 2027 entry, but applying in that later window means no merit scholarship consideration.
Do I need a separate application for Purdue scholarships?
No. Completing your Purdue admission application through the Common App by the 1 November Early Action deadline automatically puts you in the pool for the university-wide merit awards. There is no extra essay, no separate portal and no nomination step. That also means your admission essay and Purdue-specific answers are doing double duty, since the same holistic review decides both.
Can international students get a Purdue University Scholarship?
Not these ones. Purdue states that international students holding F, J and some other visa types are not eligible for its merit scholarships, and that only domestic students qualify. Domestic covers US citizens, US nationals, permanent resident aliens and others lawfully present and able to establish domicile in the US. Purdue points international students towards private and external funders instead, and notes that private loans are possible with a US citizen co-signer. International undergraduate tuition and fees run $32,104 for 2026-27.
What GPA do you need for a Purdue scholarship?
There is no published minimum to win one. The Fall 2025 entering class had a middle 50% high school GPA of 3.70 to 4.00, which is the realistic benchmark, though Purdue notes GPA is reported for context rather than used as a review factor on its own. Keeping an award is where a hard number appears: the Trustees, Presidential, Indy Scholars and Lilly awards all renew only on a Purdue GPA of 3.00 or higher.
How hard is it to get a Purdue merit scholarship?
About 15% of applicants receive a merit award, by Purdue's own figure. Set against 86,953 applications for the Fall 2025 class and a 43.4% admit rate, that makes a merit scholarship meaningfully harder to land than admission itself. Hitting the 1 November deadline is the part fully under your control, and missing it removes you from the pool regardless of how strong the rest of the application is.
Are Purdue scholarships renewable for four years?
Yes, up to four years for the main awards, conditional on a Purdue GPA of 3.00 or higher. The National Recognition Programs Scholarship renews on good academic standing rather than a stated GPA, and the Lilly Scholars award runs for up to eight semesters of continuous full-time enrolment while you pursue your first undergraduate degree. There is no annual re-competition, so the money follows you as long as the grades hold.
