Detroit Mercy does not publish a freshman merit ladder with fixed dollar amounts. Merit scholarships and grants are awarded from the admission file on grade point average, test scores where submitted, and leadership, service and extracurricular activities, and the amount is set individually. Canadian transfer students receive $1,000 to $9,000 a year, and other international transfer students need 24 or more transferable credit hours, or 36 or more quarter hours. Applicants from a foreign high school or college must also pass English proficiency to Detroit Mercy guidelines. The limit is federal and state money: students who are not US citizens or eligible non-citizens cannot receive US federal or state funding, so the Titan Edge is closed to them. American Language and Culture Program classes do not count toward full-time status for scholarship purposes.

The Titan Edge is Detroit Mercy's tuition-free route for Michigan students. It combines federal and state scholarships and grants with Detroit Mercy aid to cover the full cost of tuition for the fall and winter semesters. To qualify you need a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, eligibility for the maximum Federal Pell Grant, eligibility for the full Michigan Achievement Scholarship, full-time enrolment of 12 to 18 credit hours, and admission plus a FAFSA filed by the published spring dates. Freshman and transfer scholarships and grants renew automatically each year for a maximum of four years, or eight fall and winter semesters, provided you stay enrolled full-time as an undergraduate and maintain the grade point average set by the University's Scholarship and Grant Renewal Policy.
