PhRMA Informatics Research Starter Grant 2027
The PhRMA Foundation Informatics Research Starter Grant historically supported early faculty who applied computational and database methods to drug discovery and genomics when they lacked substantial external funding. PhRMA now organizes faculty seed support through $100,000 one-year Faculty Starter Grants in drug discovery, drug delivery, translational medicine, and value assessment, with informatics and genomics work typically fitting the Drug Discovery track. Oscar Kenshur Book Prize 2027 - $1,000

UC MEXUS Postdoc Small Grant 2027 - Archive Guide
UC MEXUS Small Grants historically paid up to $1,500 to University of California graduate students and postdoctoral researchers for short binational research trips of one week to six months tied to Mexico, Latino studies, or cross-border policy. Projects needed a UC faculty sponsor, a detailed budget, CV, and sometimes a Mexican host letter. Louisville First Book Grant 2027 - Up to $55,000

Ford Diversity Fellowship 2027 - PhD Stipend Guide
The Ford Foundation Fellowships, administered for decades by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, supported predoctoral, dissertation, and postdoctoral scholars committed to diversifying college faculties. Predoctoral awards historically paid a $27,000 annual stipend for up to three years plus conference access and mentoring networks. ARCE Research Associates 2027 - Egypt Field Support
ARCE Research Associates is unfunded research status for scholars who already hold private or institutional funding and need American Research Center in Egypt help with Egyptian government clearances, permissions, and Cairo mentoring. US citizens and foreign nationals at US universities may apply using the same portal as funded ARCE fellowships. Associates receive administrative parity with ARCE fellows but no stipend from ARCE, and non-member institutions may pay a modest service fee.
AAAS Mass Media Fellowship 2027 - $10,000 Stipend
The AAAS Mass Media Science and Engineering Fellowship places science, engineering, and mathematics students and postdocs at US newsrooms for ten weeks each summer. Fellows receive a $10,000 stipend plus travel to orientation in Washington and to their media host site. Applications for Summer 2027 open 1 October 2026 and close 1 January 2027.
Guggenheim Fellowships 2027 - US & Canada Grant
Guggenheim Fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation fund six to twelve months of work for mid-career artists, writers, scholars and scientists who are U.S. or Canadian citizens or permanent residents. The 2027 United States and Canada competition closed on 15 September 2026; work samples and reference letters follow in late September and October, with new Fellows announced in late April 2027.
Charles A. Lindbergh Fellowship 2027 - $100K NASM
The Charles A. Lindbergh Chair in Aerospace History at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum is a competitive twelve-month, in-residence fellowship for senior scholars and distinguished nonacademic authors working on a book or major publication in aerospace history. NASM lists a $100,000 stipend plus up to $5,000 for travel and research expenses. You apply through SOLAA with a 1,500-word proposal, CV, bibliography, budget, three references, and a named museum staff advisor you contact before submitting. Selected fellows typically start about a year after the winter application cycle. The next posted application deadline is January 16, 2027, with residency in the Washington, D.C. area.
ALA Biomedical Research Grants 2027 - Innovation
The American Lung Association Research Institute funds biomedical lung research through ProposalCentral, including the Innovation Award for independent investigators who held an NIH K- or R-type grant within the past five years. The Innovation Award pays $75,000 per year for up to two years for basic, behavioral, clinical, or translational projects at US nonprofit institutions. The 2027-2028 cycle opened August 5, 2026; LOIs are due September 18, 2026 and full applications December 1, 2026, with research starting July 1, 2027.
AASLD AILD Pilot Research Award 2027 - $20,000
The AASLD Foundation Autoimmune Liver Diseases Exploratory Research Award (often searched as the AILD pilot research award) provides $20,000 for one year of pilot basic, translational, or clinical research on autoimmune hepatitis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, primary biliary cholangitis, and related conditions. Graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty within five years of their first faculty appointment may apply if they are AASLD members with a mentor who is also a member, devote at least 20% research effort, and hold sponsorship from an accredited nonprofit institution in the United States, Canada, or Mexico. Projects must be new exploratory work, not already funded. Expect the next request for applications around August 2026 with a deadline near December 8, 2026 and funding from July 1, 2027 through June 30, 2028.
A. Verville Fellowship 2027 - NASM $55,000
The A. Verville Fellowship at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum funds nine to twelve months of in-residence research on major trends in aviation or space history. Mid-career scholars and qualified nonacademic writers apply through SOLAA with a NASM staff advisor, a research proposal, CV, and recommendations. Predoctoral graduate students are generally not eligible. The Smithsonian lists a $55,000 stipend for a twelve-month term plus limited travel funds, with tenure typically starting between mid-August and early October. Applications for the next cycle are due January 15, 2027, with notification around mid-March.
