Rome Prize 2027 - Up to $30,000 Rome Fellowship
The Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome supports about thirty US artists and scholars each year with a residency in Italy. Full-term winners receive a $30,000 stipend, a private bedroom and bath, a studio, weekday meals through the Rome Sustainable Food Project, and nine months in Rome from September through June. Half-term awards pay $16,000. Most categories require US citizenship at application; several humanities postdoctoral tracks also accept foreign nationals who have lived in the United States for three years before the deadline. Applications for the 2027-2028 residency close November 1, 2026, with a higher-fee window through November 15 and recommendation letters due November 30.
PhRMA Health Outcomes Starter Grant 2027
The PhRMA Foundation Health Outcomes Research Starter Grant, formally the Value Assessment and Health Outcomes Research Faculty Starter Grant, provides $100,000 for one year of independent faculty research on how healthcare interventions perform in real populations. Early promotion-eligible investigators at accredited US universities apply when the Faculty Starter portfolio is open, typically through ProposalCentral after a letter of intent. Eligibility mirrors other PhRMA faculty starters: at least three first-author publications, a faculty appointment after January 1, 2025, a terminal degree on or after January 1, 2017, and no substantial NIH R or K awards as principal investigator. The Foundation requires patient engagement in value assessment proposals and pays research costs to the university rather than salary for the PI. New Faculty Starter Grant applications were on a temporary hiatus while the portfolio was restructured; verify phrmafoundation.org before you prepare an LOI.
ICJS Short-Term Fellowship 2027 - Monticello
The Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies at Monticello offers short-term research fellowships of one to three months in Charlottesville, Virginia. Scholars worldwide study Thomas Jefferson, Monticello, and the founding era with library access, staff support, and a required research forum. Domestic fellows receive $2,500 per month plus up to $2,000 travel; international fellows receive $3,000 per month with similar travel support. Apply by 1 October 2026 for 2027 residencies.
Wilson Center Fellowships 2027 - Research & More
The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, DC runs several fellowship tracks for people working on US foreign policy. The flagship Research Fellowship pays about $10,000 a month for twelve remote months on a nonpartisan project, with applications due 30 September 2026 via Interfolio. The Congressional Fellowship Program offers a six-week seminar series for current congressional staff. Distinguished and visiting fellowships are by invitation. Scholars, journalists, and senior practitioners worldwide may compete for research awards when they meet publication or experience thresholds.
AAUW American Fellowships 2027 - Up to $50,000
AAUW American Fellowships are the American Association of University Women's flagship awards for women who are US citizens, nationals, or permanent residents. The 2027 cycle includes the American Doctoral Fellowship, which pays $25,000 during one year of a first doctorate in any field, and the American Postdoctoral Research Leave Fellowship, which pays $50,000 for a year of full-time postdoctoral research. Applications open 17 August 2026 at 9am Eastern and close 30 September 2026 at 5pm Eastern. STEM researchers and scholars studying gender issues are especially encouraged. Stipends arrive in two equal instalments, with notification in April 2027 and the first payment between July and September 2027.
Feeding Hope Clinical Research Grant 2026 - NEDA
The Feeding Hope Fund for Clinical Research from the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) backs human-participant pilot studies on eating disorders that can reach clinical care or early intervention within one to five years. Two tracks run in each cycle: the Feeding Hope Award up to $100,000 over two years for established investigators, and the Early Career Investigator grant up to $50,000 for assistant professors and below, including postdoctoral and predoctoral researchers. US citizens or lawful permanent residents at US institutions apply first with a Letter of Intent, then finalists submit full proposals. Basic science-only projects are out of scope; underserved communities and access-to-care equity are priorities. CASBS Fellowship 2028 - Up to $83,000 Stipend
CASBS Fellowships place accomplished scholars in a residential year at Stanford's Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences. First-time fellows may receive a Center stipend of up to $83,000 to supplement sabbatical or salary support, plus housing and relocation subsidies for many relocators. Applications for the 2027-28 year close 30 October 2026.
PhRMA Pharmacology Toxicology Starter Grant 2027
The PhRMA Foundation Pharmacology/Toxicology Research Starter Grant historically offered $100,000 for one year of independent faculty research in pharmacology, drug toxicology, or related pharmaceutical sciences when applicants lacked other substantial funding. Current Faculty Starter Grants use the same $100,000 one-year project support model for early promotion-eligible faculty at US universities, though the Foundation has temporarily paused new Faculty Starter Grant applications while it restructures its portfolio. Eligibility when programmes reopen typically requires three first-author publications, faculty appointments after January 1, 2025, terminal degrees conferred on or after January 1, 2017, and no major NIH R or K awards as principal investigator.
Pharmacology Toxicology Postdoc 2027 - PhRMA
The PhRMA Foundation Pharmacology/Toxicology Post Doctoral Fellowship historically supported postdocs who integrate pharmacology or toxicology with multidisciplinary training on drug effects in intact organisms, including collaborations with cell biology, pathology, or systems biology labs. Current PhRMA postdoctoral awards pay $60,000 per year for 12, 18, or 24 months at accredited US universities under shared eligibility rules: terminal doctorate, postdoctoral appointment, mentor commitment, two first-author publications, and degree granted on or after January 1, 2024. PhRMA Sabbatical Fellowship 2027 - Drug Discovery
The PhRMA Foundation Pharmacology/Toxicology Sabbatical Fellowship historically paid faculty up to $40,000 for six to twelve months of training at another US institution to deepen pharmacology and toxicology research skills. PhRMA now organizes that scientific territory under its Drug Discovery program (predoctoral, postdoctoral, and faculty starter grants). Nila Banton Smith Dissemination Grant 2027
The Nila Banton Smith Research Dissemination Support Grant from the International Literacy Association (ILA) awards up to $5,000 to members who turn literacy research into resources for educators, such as literature reviews, meta-analyses, monographs, or similar dissemination projects. Funds can support project expenses including limited salary support, and the work must finish within one year of the award. Applicants submit through ILA''s ScholarOne awards system. Informatics Post Doctoral Fellowship 2027 - PhRMA
The PhRMA Foundation Informatics Post Doctoral Fellowship supports postdoctoral researchers who bridge experimental and computational work in genomic and biomedical studies.
