What is the Churchill Scholarship?

The Churchill Scholarship is the American pipeline into one of the most research-heavy master's years Cambridge offers. Sir Winston Churchill envisioned the award when Churchill College was founded, and the Winston Churchill Foundation still picks scientists and engineers on research merit first, not on polish as future ambassadors.

You spend nine to twelve months embedded in a Cambridge lab or, for mathematicians, in the famously demanding Part III course load. Tuition, travel, visa costs, and a generous stipend remove the financial friction so you can chase questions that would feel too risky during a hurried US senior year. The Hertz Fellowship is the hardest doctoral award in American science to win and one of the most generous. GEM Fellowship Program 2026 - Funded MS & PhD in STEM
The National GEM Consortium pairs engineering and science graduate students with the companies and universities that will pay for their degree. An Employer Fellow gets full tuition and fees from a GEM member university, a stipend of at least $16,000, and paid summer internships with the sponsoring company: up to two for a master's, at least one for a PhD, with PhD tuition covered up to the fifth year. Applications for the 2026 cycle opened on 1 July and close at 11:59 PM Eastern on 13 November 2026, the second Friday in November. Two things trip people up. You must be a US citizen or permanent resident at the time of application, and you must apply directly to at least three GEM member universities on top of the GEM application itself, by their own deadlines or 15 January, whichever comes first. Minimum GPA is 2.8 for the MS track and 3.0 for the PhD track. The GRE is strongly encouraged and not required.

Fulbright US Student Program 2027 - 160+ Countries
The Fulbright US Student Program sends more than 2,000 Americans abroad every year to study, research or teach English, across more than 140 countries and with opportunities in over 160 countries and territories. Funded by the US Government, administered by IIE under the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, it covers round-trip travel, a living stipend set against the host country's cost of living, and accident and sickness health benefits. The 2027-2028 competition is open and the national deadline is 6 October 2026 at 5pm Eastern. If you are enrolled at a US college you cannot use that date: you apply through your campus Fulbright Program Adviser on an institutional deadline that typically falls four to six weeks earlier, with a campus interview and a chance to revise before submission.

The ITE Diversity Scholars Program, now branded as the ITE University Scholars Program, supports US high school seniors and community college transfer students who plan to study transportation engineering, planning, or related fields at a four-year university with an ITE Student Chapter. Scholars can receive up to $20,000 total, paid up to $4,000 per year for as many as five years, plus mentoring, chapter engagement, and internship connections. Applicants need a 3.0 high school GPA, US citizenship or lawful permanent residency, and preference goes to first-generation and Pell-eligible students. Applications are due March 15 at 5:00 p.m. Central Time on the ITE scholarship platform.
